It goes without saying that you should be learning and reading books.

But your DrSpouse works a ton, you’re juggling everything, and your to-do list is a mile long.

I suggest these books not because they are helpful, but because they have literally changed my life. They shaped me and consequently our future forever.

They are must reads.

Here they are.

Bogleheads’ Guide to Investing introduced me all I needed to know to start investing for retirement.

It was the “a ha” moment that changed my life.

The Final Hurdle is about physician employment contacts. Even if you are planning to hire a contract attorney to review your contract, you need to read this book before you interview.

It is a myth that academic contracts are standard and you have to “take it or leave it” because everybody’s has to be identical. The secret is that you must bring up these negotiation points before the contract is written, as that is the time when some addendums can still be discussed.

Once the contract is written and handed to you, it’s mostly a done deal. At that point, what’s left is to just understand what’s on it.

If you read this book, you will have an upper hand at negotiating.
